More Orang Asli Students Will Be Guaranteed Places In Varsities

PUTRAJAYA : More Orang Asli students will be guaranteed places in Malaysian public universities.
As long as they meet the minimum requirements, they will be given permanent places, said Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
He said they would not be expected to achieve the same level of competitiveness as students of other races.
“According to our figures, Orang Asli students lose out when they have to vie for university places under the current meritocracy system.
“We want to ensure that more qualified students from the community have access to higher education,” he said after presenting the 2009 excellent service awards to ministry staff yesterday.
